The Savage Group

Eric Weber became the CEO of the Union Gospel Mission Sioux Falls, December 10, 2019. Founded in 1900, UGM is the second oldest rescue mission in the United States.

A native Hawaiian, Eric Weber lived in Hawaii until he was 12 years old. When his family relocated to Los Angeles, he attended school in Southern California. At 21, Eric owned his first business and worked as a youth pastor at Camarillo Community Church for eight years. He also served as the director of the “Night That Wouldn’t End” youth movement for street kids at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California, serving more than 20,000 students annually.

Eric has been married to Trudy since 2002. The couple has three daughters: Leilani, 18, Kieli, 18, and Kaili, 16. The family moved to the Sioux Falls area in 2005. From 2005 to 2013, Eric was an SBA 8A GSA Lighting Contractor and owned 3D Energy US. He worked with large companies, integrating teams to complete major projects around the world. He has extensive experience as a life coach helping people live and work intentionally.

Eric served as a volunteer and board member at Union Gospel Mission from 2005 until 2019 when he became CEO. On his first day a CEO, he opened the financials and discovered the Mission had only $39,000 in its accounts. Payroll was $29,000 and four months of accumulated unpaid bills added another $23,000—a total of $52,000.  Gas and electric bills totaled $15,000; the mission’s mortgage was three months in arrears and heading into default.

As he wondered how God was going to keep the Mission open, he felt a sense of hopelessness, but during his quiet time with the Lord, God told him to remember where his hope comes from. Eric’s next step was to pick up the phone and “reach out to people and made a noise like never before.”

In those first weeks as CEO, Eric would begin the task of pulling the Mission out of debt, preparing for a Christmas Day celebration for 600-plus people and handle the regular daily workload with somewhat demoralized but committed staff members.

That next 30 days, Eric worked hard and trusted in God to make it all happen! January 10, 2020—one month later—he was able to pay off one of the buildings and get current with all the bills! “That was all God!” he says today.

March 17, 2020, the Union Gospel Mission was to celebrate its 120th anniversary. March 10, 2020, Eric received a call and learned of the  pandemic. Four people walked off the job that day.  “Everything went splat!” Eric recalls.  “But again, God worked it all out. My team had to come together to make a lot happen, and they did! God is providing the way for us to do amazing things and help so many people!”

It's no wonder Eric’s favorite saying is: “Today is a new day! Live it.”
